No Season 2 for the streaming comedy.
September 29, 2025
Word is out that Hulu has cancelled Mid-Century Modern after one season. Co-creator Max Mutchnick broke the news on Instagram this afternoon. The comedy released its 10-episode freshman run in the spring, garnering an overall positive reception from both critics and viewers.
"Ten great episodes... Not enough," wrote Mutchnick in his post. "But we loved making every single one of them. We're gonna miss our very special show. Thanks to everyone who watched."
The show follows three gay gentlemen of a certain age who are also best friends. After an unexpected death, the three decide to spend their golden years living together in Palm Springs, where the wealthiest one lives with his mother. As a chosen family, they prove that no matter how hard things get, there's always someone around to remind you it would be better if you got your neck done.

It was obvious that it was heading for cancellation. weak sitcom, not funny.

Not funny, not good script and looks like it was shot on a phone. You’d expect better from the show’s cast talent.
Why in the world it was even considered for an Emmy?

Interesting. Sad. I haven't seen the show as of yet. I was looking forward to watching it, but if it doesn't have a Season Two, why bother? Usually, a show with a cast list such as this, has a two season deal in place, without a cancellation option, even before the first table read. I don't know, maybe it's different for streaming.

As someone who is gay, I found this show to be terrible. I gave it a chance because the cast was strong, but the script and writing were extremely weak. It’s honestly surprising that it even made it on the air. The over-the-top stereotypes weren’t funny and portrayed gay people in a really negative light. We are not all like that, and relying on tired clichés is, in my opinion, far beneath the talent of the actors involved. Overall, it was a poor show, and it’s no surprise that it struggled to find an audience.

Brenda Anderson IS the Karen of the Site. A Witch is all she is and all she knows. I feel sorry for her family, you know she is a tyrant at home, and you know she has a family because Misery Loves Company. Those poor beings.

@Brenda Anderson...the KAREN of the site.
Did you ever stop to think, maybe a show just isn't good and politics has nothing to do with it?
Is your TDS that bad? If Disney/Hulu was "fascist" why would they bring him back.
Also, if your going to use the word fascist, at least spell it right.

A real shame. Such a good cast. We need a little light comedy in our life nowadays.

Close to the end of the first season, I cringed at the poor taste and constant reinforcing of gay stereotypes that the general public believes are correct. Such a great cast SHOULD have not allowed to scripts to be written this way.
