The Jensen Ackles drama will not return.

Word is out that Countdown has been cancelled by Prime Video after one season. The news comes a month after the crime drama wrapped its 13-episode freshman run. Star Jensen Ackles took to Instagram to let fans know the show will be not be continuing.
"As some of you may have seen already, Countdown did not get picked up for another season. Amazon's gonna let it go, and it's a bummer," said Ackles in the video message. "I had such an amazing time making that show. I had an absolute blast with the cast and the crew. Thank you to Derek for making the show and writing those characters. And thanks to Amazon for giving us the opportunity, especially Vernon Sanders for being such a champion for that show." See the full video below.
The series stars Ackles as LAPD detective Mark Meachum, who is recruited to a secret task force comprised of undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement in order to find the killer of an officer from the Department of Homeland Security. But the manhunt reveals a plot far more sinister than anyone could have imagined, kicking off a race against time to save a city of millions.

Ending the current plot and starting a new plot (and new big bad) in the last two episodes of the season, then leaving the season on a cliffhanger... The creators really would've felt confident they were getting a renewal. That fell flat!

I agree the show was good, but the lack of subtitles, killing animals, and also the "mandatory" nod to the "right wing bad" crowd made it difficult to watch sometimes.
Also factor in that Jensen Ackles doesn't come cheap. He is a very successful actor, and it's possible that having him as the star was a bad decision in the end. Yes, he's a great actor, and likely his presence brought in viewers, but at the same time, if it's not making money, his paycheck isn't going to be worth it. Double edged sword as they say.

I’m just about ready to stop watching Prime Video Series!! First it was The Bondsman, then Motorheads, and now Coutdown!! The only good shows left on Prime are Ballard and Reacher!! The rest are cancelled. So sad to invest all this time in getting to know new characters and plots. They don’t give shows enough time anymore. Jensen Ackles and Eric Dane knocked this show out of the park. Sure, there were some awkward things like no subtitles when speaking foreign languages from time to time but I just took that as part of the story line. I hope it gets picked up elsewhere but not holding my breath the others haven’t yet either. Kevin Bacon, Ryan Phillipe, and now Jensen Ackles and Eric Dane. The rest of these actors on these shows were good too. Especially Countdown! Well, see if I watch another new series on Prime might just stick with Paramount+. It would have to be really good. Oh I forgot about the Boys!! However, that one is a bit much from time to time but still watching.

NO!!!!! Why do they always cancel the good shows? I hope it gets picked up on another channel. Is is because of Eric Dane's ALS diagnoses. They are no good shows anymore.

I literally just finished rewatching the whole thing last night - for the 3rd time.
I was gearing up to find out what this FBI guy's issues were.
How the Amber situation played out (while I'm yelling "don't run in a straight line!!! He's a marksman!)
I want to know if Shep's sister survived; how Meecham approaches his new life and career goals post-tumor; how Bell aligns himself toward his goal of FBI director; what's up with Fineau -- he seems so hesitant in squadroom stuff.
Can I hope that another streamer will pick it up?? Hadn't they already filmed some of season 2?? They could at least give us those...

Animals getting killed usually will be a deal breaker for a lot of people. Annoying music. Other languages being spoken with no subtitles to know what they are saying unless you speak that language especially when it seems like an important part that need to be known for the story. No surprise it didn't make it
