Netflix announced today that A Different World has been renewed for a second season. The news comes a week after the comedy released its 10-episode freshman run, which debuted at #4 in the streamer's Global Top 10 English TV list.
"It's so validating to be bolstered by our amazing audience," said Creator, Showrunner, and Executive Producer Felicia Pride. "We are beyond excited to return to Hillman and continue to tell meaningful and heartfelt stories that resonate across generations. I am thrilled for our brilliant cast and our hard-working crew."
"YAY! HALLELUJAH! The people and NETFLIX have spoken," said Executive Producer and Director Debbie Allen. "A Different World brought something everybody needed: joy, romance, relevance, authenticity, and HEART! Thank you for getting us into the Top 10 worldwide! And now, gear up! We're coming back at you with Season 2!!"
"We are so excited to see how audiences around the world have embraced the next chapter of this beloved series," said Tracey Pakosta, Vice President, Comedy Series, Netflix. "We believed in this incredible team from day one, and can't wait to see what unfolds next year at Hillman College."
Serving as a sequel to the iconic 1990s sitcom, the series follows the free-spirited, well-intentioned, yet rebellious youngest child of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert, Deborah, who enters her freshman year at Hillman College. There she finds the shadow of her parents difficult to escape as she sets out to build her own legacy, while having the time of her life, alongside a whole new generation of Hillman's best and brightest.
