Matthew Weiner to continue as showrunner, with a seventh season possible.
March 31, 2011
On the heels of Mad Men's fifth season being delayed due to ongoing negotiations with showrunner Matthew Weiner, comes news that the series has been renewed for two additional seasons.
AMC and Lionsgate made the announcement today, confirming Seasons 5 and 6 of the drama - with Weiner on board for both. A new long-term agreement was signed with the series creator, which also leaves room for a possible seventh season.
"I want to thank all of our wonderful fans for their support", Weiner said in a statment. " I also want to thank AMC and Lionsgate for agreeing to support the artistic freedom of myself, the cast and the crew so that we can continue to make the show exactly as we have from the beginning. I'm excited to get started on the next chapter of our story."
As we reported earlier this week, Season 5 of Mad Men is still expected to be delayed until 2012. No word on exact dates at this time.
