The network has pulled its remaining episodes from its schedule.
May 11, 2012
It is a sad day for fans of NBC's Awake. The network has cancelled the freshman drama. Only 11 of the show's 13 planned episodes have aired, but the remaining two are still on the schedule for the next two Thursdays.
Awake has had an up-hill battle since premiering as a mid-season replacement back in March. Its plot contained sci-fi elements, was rather intricate at times, and required dedicated weekly viewing in order to keep up with its running storylines. Unfortunately it didn't find enough of an audience for the network to go forward with it, however the fans it did have were passionate about the show's quality and uniqueness.

This show was just getting juicy and they cancel it. I recorded 10 episodes before I started watching, but once I started I couldn't stop. They really need to give well thought out plots a chance. I want to know what happened!!!!

I can remember a time when NBC stuck its neck out for good programs: Hill Street Blues, St. Elsewhere, and so many other dramas that weren't immediate hits and were still given more than one season to stir up an audience and prove themselves. Often they returned as med-season replacements, etc. But they didn't dissappear altogether. THIS IS WHY CABLE NOW GETS MOST OF THE AWARDS! THIS IS WHY CABLE NOW GETS MORE AND MORE VIEWERS! Please rethink your cancellation of this program and your other dramas.
Sad N Upset

Seriously? You are cancelling Awake?! Ok so it came on oposite of another great show and some people like me who enjoy both shows had to watch it on demand. That doesn't mean it wasn't watched. I agree with Rick above; "NBC you Suck! You don't know a good show when you have one." Cancel the crappy reality shows and get back to "prime", prime time!

Hadn't been this pissed since Better Off Ted was cancelled. This was a well acted, better written, intelligent, interesting story.
F**k NBC indeed.
So Not the Drama

I'm adding my voice to the other commenters who've complained about the trash that is called television today. Awake is smart, engaging, intriguing and one of the few shows I've watched in a long time where I felt invested in the characters from day 1. I want to know what the baddies were doing that they felt Michael needed to be killed. I want to find out which reality is the real one. I want to continue on this journey with Michael and find out where it goes.
I rarely watch new shows anymore. The writing is often weak, the jokes not funny and/or the characters are unengaging. Reality television is a complete joke. Why do we need season 437 of Survivor or The Bachelor? Television is supposed to be an escape from reality. I don't waste time in the real world being catty and vindictive and I DO NOT enjoy watching tv shows/movies/reading books where characters engage in that behaviour.
So boo on you NBC. Thank the tv gods that you had the foresight to renew Smash for next season. If only that great vision had extended to Awake. Hopefully the tv gods will smile upon all of us Awake fans and TNT or USA will pick it up so we can continue to discover exactly what's going on in the fascinating mind of Michael Britton.

Seriously??? They renew the crap reality shows because that is what these young kids these days wanna see. Our society has become more worried about who cheated on who, and who can hurt others the most behind others back or to their face, etc. No wonder the kids today have no respect for themselves or others! I haven't had cable for over a year now. It is ridiculous and they show the same episodes over and over. I have the basic channels, Netflix, Hulu, the internet and my Kindle. T.V. is just about worthless these days!
