The dramedy will say good-bye in 2015.
September 10, 2014
Showtime announced today that the upcoming seventh season of Nurse Jackie will be its last. On the air since 2009, the award-winning dramedy will leave as one of the network's highest-rated comedies, having averaged 3.4 million weekly viewers across platforms in Season 6.
“Edie is one of our finest actresses,” said Showtime President, David Nevins. “We are so honored to have had her on the network. She creates indelible characters and Nurse Jackie Peyton is no exception. I know this final season will bring her story to a close that will satisfy the ever-growing number of loyal viewers who have been entranced and, at times, appalled by Jackie through the years. I want to thank Edie, the incredible cast of NURSE JACKIE and Clyde Phillips and Richie Jackson who have led the show to the success that it is today.”
Production on Season 7 of Nurse Jackie is set to begin this week, with a 2015 premiere date yet to be determined.
Update: The final season of Nurse Jackie will premiere on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 9:00pm.

I just watched the last episode, I think. Last night's ended with Jackie collapsing in the closed ER and everyone rushing around her. If this is indeed the last episode (and it has that feeling) There is so much of the story that isn't finished. Did she die, being the most important question. I absolutely hate it when a series ends and doesn't provide all the answers. Makes you feel sometimes that there was little point in watching every series for all these years.

SO SORRY TO SEE NURSE JACKIE LEAVE AFTER SEASON 7 -- I AM A BIG FAN OF EDIE FALCO - SHE IS A SUPER TALENTED ACTRESS AND PERSON - I ENJOYED THE SHOW FROM DAY 1 - ALL OF THE ACTORS THROUGH THE YEARS WERE SO GREAT - THE WRITERS WERE GREAT - LIKE MOST SERIES - IT IS TME TO MOVE ON

The show wasn't getting boring the writers got bored. Many a great show gets cancelled because the writers lose their edge or interest or both. All great long time series have great writers who can come up with new material. Don't blame the show. A show is only as good as the creators.

AW....One of the best shows on television. But, then again with the current story lines of on again off again drugs, I knew it wouldn't be long before the show would come to an end. The characters will be missed.

I was a big fan of the first 5 Seasons, then after watching Season 6 I lost interest. I just felt it lost its edge and felt contrived. Jackie, seemed flat the whole season. Maybe it's time to put this show out to pasture...

I thought I would HATE this show... A friend of mine, told me to watch it... I just finished the first 6 seasons - doing a marathon.
Now, one of my FAVORITE shows! Sad to hear it is ending. I would not call it a full comedy. It is quite the mixture of all emotions! It it works perfectly.

It was a great show. But the recent season just wasn't as good as the past ones. So I'm glad they know when to end it, instead of dragging it along. And that they are giving it a final season... unlike The Borgias.
