November 7, 2014
AMC announced today that Hell on Wheels has been renewed for a fifth and final season. The western drama will return with 14 episodes to conclude the series, split between the summers of 2015 and 2016.
“With season five of ‘Hell On Wheels,’ we are proud to bring our trans-continental journey to conclusion for the large, loyal audience that has traveled with Cullen Bohannon and his crew for so many years,” said AMC President Charlie Collier in a press release. “We look forward to appropriately honoring ‘Hell On Wheels’ in this final season. Enormous thanks to the terrific writers, cast and crew for all they have achieved and for all that lies ahead in the Wild West.”
The show has three episodes remaining in Season 4, which is scheduled to wrap up on November 22. When the show bows out in 2016, it will cap a successful 5-year run of 57 total episodes.

Really sad to see this one go. It has the best episode cliffhangers week after week. The sets are fantastic. One of my favorite shows of all time.

This is the best western series since Big Valley. Awesome acting, sets and scenery. The story is exciting and engrossing. The characters are deep, complicated and impossible to not get involved with. Plus, it has a lot of history about such big events like the after effects of the Civil War and the push west during the frantic rush to build a railroad to the west coast. Hell on Wheels has everything you would want from a western and more. I am sad next season will be its last. I do understand though, because I can see that the story line is playing itself out and as all good things must come to its end.

I agree Mitch, the Swede was and is a great character, he was the one bright spot in the bunch; the prostitute with the tattoo was ok too.
