The new comedy gets the axe.
February 4, 2015
CBS has pulled freshman comedy The McCarthys from its schedule effective immediately. Since its October premiere, the series has struggled to find a sizable audience in its Thursday night time slot behind Two and a Half Men.
The move, which effectively cancels the show, comes after its 11th episode, cutting its season short by four of a total of 15 episodes ordered.

I loved this show! The writing was hilarious. Tyler Ritter made his dad proud I am sure!

A lot of these shows would fare a lot better if they wouldn't shove Gay card down out throats. I enjoy French fries but not for every meal. It's almost like they're saying "We're gay and don't you forget it!" Enough already!

I enjoyed the show and the silly humor. Not everything has to be PC. To the guy below who said it, I liked Selfie too and just as it was getting good they canceled it. The title was off putting but it was a decent show. People wonder why young people don't have TVs, just look at network TV and you see why. Whatevs.

Again.. the LGBT community is LESS THAN 5% of the population. There's NO reason EVERY show needs to include an KGBT twist. I know the LGBT community wants everyone to think they are "everywhere" but in reality they are not. They are an EXTREME minority. I'm not saying remove the LGBT aspect entirely, just don't put it in EVERY show... and least not until EVERY show also represents Black, Asian, and Latino communities at the VERY least.

Wow! The amount of prejudice I've been reading in these posts is disappointing. That said, I liked the dynamics of the show - the sports-centered family, the mother and the outsider gay son. I don't see any need to not make him gay as others here have stated. Not every program with gay characters is trying to be Will & Grace. LGBT people exist and have been historically underrepresented in television. I liked the fact that he wasn't a cartoonish interpretation. However, the program does deserve to be canceled. The showrunners just weren't able to pull everything together. It was a disjointed show from the start filled with uncomfortable silences between jokes. And in the end, it just wasn't funny enough.

i enjoyed it, but usually missed it because I was/am avoiding. 2 1/2 men like the plague, different time slot maybe better ratings. As long as we don't get some "reality" show instead.. Sure as hell won't watch odd couple.

Good. It was awful. Stop green lighting shows, just because of the "Gay" factor. And hope it gets the "Gay" factor Will & Grace type ratings.

WHAT? Are you kidding me? I LOVE this show -- makes me laugh out loud. I can only hope another network will pick it up.

The show should have been canceled last year. What took so long? The pilots need several test audiences before being given a series order. The test audience would tell you what is a hit and a miss. Now all the cast and crew are out of work and wasted weeks on the show. CBS will cancel The Odd Couple too. Just the thought of a 3rd version of it sucks.
