The Jenna Elfman comedy will not return.
May 11, 2017
ABC has cancelled Imaginary Mary after just one season. The freshman comedy, which mixes live action and CGI animation, premiered as a mid-season entry without much buzz, ultimately failing to attract a substantial audience in its Tuesday night time slot.
The series starred Jenna Elfman as Alice, a public relations executive with a long-standing fear of commitment who has her world turned upside down when her childhood creation comes back to life. This turn of events makes Alice's life even more chaotic, as her imaginary friend from decades ago is now back to express all her fears while trying to help her transition from the single life to being ready to find love.

I am so disappointed in them cancelling this! I could really relate to her having relationship problems and needing help navigating it all. I really like Jenna Elfman and I was looking forward to this with the very first preview about a month or so before it started. I think the main problem was the kids, the guy and the time slot. It was up against heavy hitters like NCIS and Agents of SHIELD, Legends of Tomorrow and Bull. I couldn't even watch or record it on tv when it was on. I had to watch it on the network web site with a teensy screen so I couldn't see much (really need a big tv screen to watch tv). It was a really poor choice of time slots which means they wanted it to fail. I was hoping to at least get a full season out of it and at least have it end on an endable note. Very sad!

So sad 😓, I was extremely excited when this show aired. I love the story line and the topics it covers. I hope another station picks it up or Netflix should pick it up. I am truly sad there will not me another season,I was looking forward to more seasons of this show.

Bub you have very harsh comments to a actress who has a difficult profession , she had to act with a puppet for her scenes , it was Disney who did the Mary cgi ..i for one loved it , it made me chuckle ...
i am sad ABC and you damn Yankees who think they know tv , it was only 9 episodes long and you scuppered it from having a chance ...bunch of cretins you are!!

You would think after DECADES of work... the executives would learn..... IF YOU CAST ELFMAN THE SHOW IS DOOMED. Seriously... she's NEVER had a great success. She's had multiple short run sitcoms that have lasted 2 or 3 seasons TOPs. Most often they are canceled after a single season. Dharma and Gregg lasted 3 or 4 season.. her longest run TWENTY YEARS AGO (same age as her IMDB photo apparently).

Yeah so maybe the premise wasn't that logical or uplifting but it was a cute, funny, endearing show. I can't believe it's being cancelled after only a few shows. The interplay between Alice and Mary was hilarious...although you could have gotten rid of the rest of the cast.

THIS is what Adam Goldberg typically writes. And it's dreadful. Truly dreadful. He got very lucky with "The Goldbergs" but has yet to write anything even close to that quality. Most of his writing gets cancelled fairly quickly. The storylines here were terrible.. a 16 year old that DOESN'T want to drive? A woman nearing 40 (if not past it) with no clue about relationships? I mean really? The primary thing that bothered me about this show beyond the horrible storylines and other than Rachel Dratch's voice in itself.. was the VERY POOR audio mix when "Mary" would speak. Room noise just STOPS.. Mary speaks...... then room noise starts again when Elfman speaks.

I'm a bit surprised. I thought this show was good and hoped that ABC would give it a chance.

I only watched this show once, but it was actually pretty good, with enjoyable characters. I just don't think people liked the premise, so they didn't bother watching.

I could not get past the premise!! I would have watched it as a movie, but week to week? Nope.
