The door is still open for the franchise to eventually continue.
June 7, 2017
After delaying a decision on the future of 24: Legacy during last month's upfronts, Fox this evening has officially cancelled the action drama after just one season. The move comes following the franchise's first incarnation without Kiefer Sutherland - a 12-episode run in the spring that ultimately fell flat in the ratings.
Fox executives had high hopes for 24: Legacy, giving it this year's coveted post-Super Bowl time slot that started its season off with over 17 million viewers. And while the next couple of episodes fared decently, audiences stopped coming back for the remainder of its run.
It is being reported, though, that Fox and 24's production team are open to revisiting the franchise in the future with a more anthological format, with each season featuring a different setting and a new cast of characters.

I'm not surprised to be honest. Millions of people said without Sutherland then 24 would be no good and this cancellation proves that we (the millions) were correct! Does FOX & 24 production really think a new cast every new (possible) season is going to work? Nothing against Corey Hawkins but did they honestly think taking a barely recognizable actor from The Walking Dead (who i can barely remember) was going to pull off being the main role? You can't simple take a Walking Dead extra and make him a leading role. It won't work. It don't matter if its 24 episodes or 12 the only way 24 will work is if Jack is back! It is that simple. Nobody can fill those shoes. It's a character we all got emotionally involved in.

I didn't have to watch much of this to know it sucked. Good thing there's still great TV out there: American Gods, Ash vs Evil Dead, Better Call Saul, Billions, Designated Survivor, Fargo, Flaked, Game of Thrones, Halt and Catch Fire, House of Cards, Love, Madam Secretary, Mr Robot, Preacher, The Expanse, Twin Peaks, Vikings...

Like a budget version of the original and that's being generous. No original ideas in television anymore.

I like doing it. While it was no Jack Bauer, it kept a similar vibe to the original show and we were always at the edge of our seats.

Fox should make a show called that 2000s show it would be cool with references to Britney or Christina Aguilera or other singers

If we're being honest with ourselves. this show was, at best, mediocre. It wasn't even close to being as good as the original 24. We watched it each week hoping it would get better. It didn't.

I loved this show no reason to cancel this one either. We all should just watch old stuff anyway, seems like we get into a new series only for it to be cancelled. Sense8, Underground, Outsiders and 24 Legacy....Really, like what is the point....Really and yes Corey Hawkins played this part well. Maybe they shouldn't killed him off The Walking Dead.

@tirebiter: Thanks very much for the answer and the info about the Replaytv DVR. It sounds like a perfect set up for you. I think I looked into that a long time ago, but I was intimidated and stuck with VCR's. I actually only gave up my VHS recording a few years ago when Comcast made VCR's incompatible. I went into the DVR/TiVo world kicking and screaming, but now I love it and am shocked by how different my viewing habits are. I use all SD for space reasons so I'm obviously not fussy about picture quality.
I could never watch 24 one week at a time, but that binge watching messes with my memory so I often find myself not remembering things - like that massacre of the Russians. Thanks again for the refresher.

Boo Fox for canceling. Surprisingly I did enjoy it. Story line, acting, momentum. Only I wish they would of mentioned what happened to Jack so storyline would of been complete.
