The new comedy has been pulled from the schedule.

It looks like The Mayor will not be up for re-election. ABC has pulled the freshman political comedy from its schedule ahead of its originally-planned return from holiday break on January 9. The move makes it the network's second cancelled series of the season, with Ten Days in the Valley being the other.
The sole new comedy on the network's 2017-2018 schedule, The Mayor struggled to find an audience during the majority of its run. Slotted in on Tuesday nights at 8:30pm following Black-ish, the series dropped a good number of viewers from its veteran lead-in. Through nine episodes, it ranks as ABC's lowest-rated comedy.
The Mayor followed a young rapper who decides to run for mayor of his California hometown as a publicity stunt to create some buzz to further his music career. The only problem is he actually wins. With his plan gone awry, he is tasked with helping his struggling city.
With the series now off the schedule, four episodes will be left unaired for the time being. It is unknown if ABC will burn them off at a later date. Taking the show's place on the schedule for now will be reruns of Modern Family until a permanent replacement is found.

I just discovered this show, and was hoping to see it stick around. I thought it was a great show to teach younger folk about how politics does and does not work. Other than one remark during the entire series, it didn't seem to contain the "white bashing" some have referred to.

I've gotta say the only thing I'll miss is not seeing Yvette Nicole Brown. I've loved her since "Community".

I can’t say I didn’t see it coming but really wanted it to make it.

Who would have thought that a show with this premise wouldn't last? It's such a shocker. /s

I predicted this already long ago

If you think this show is bad based on race, you might be a racist. It was canned because it had one plot. After 4 episodes with the exact same plot people were done with it. The 4 unaired episodes are "The mayor wants to help the underprivileged. The city can not afford to. David Spade tells him this, but treats him like a child. The mayor works to get it done, but never learns that government is complicated and things are not done sometimes for complicated reasons."

Beside's who the hell wants to see a kid for mayor?

I am just happy to see that all these white bashing shows get cancelled. Black folk dont pay your bills ABC. You just ride the racist wagon to money.

Good. They alienated half their target audience in their commercials before the show even aired. Was waiting for this news and happy to see it. Well deserved.

I couldn't even sit through the first episode and was like umm no, not surprised it was canceled, I am surprised it was on as long as it was.
