Freeform announced today that Siren has been renewed for a second season. The freshman series is off to a solid start, with its March premiere ranking it as the #1 new cable drama among young women.
The network has ordered 16 episodes for the show's sophomore run, which is a considerable increase over the 10 it received in Season 1.
Siren follows the residents of Bristol Cove, a coastal fishing town where a legend exists that it was once home to mermaids. The folklore is proven true when a mysterious girl named Ryn arrives, wreaking havoc that results in a battle between the town's residents and these predatory beings who wish to reclaim their right to the sea.
Two episodes remain in the show's first season, with the finale set to air on Thursday, May 24.

Kind of interesting and definitely unique. If you want typical mermaid fare, check the Aussie offerings.
I can't quite see how this will be a long lasting series given the unequal power struggle, but that problem is why showrunners have their jobs, and I just watch.

Oh, for next season, more about Helen, how is she family to the Pownals, how is she also a mermaid? What about Maddie's mother? Will Ben's mom get cured by Donna's stem cells? And the triangle of Ben, Maddie, and Ryn - seems there are plenty of stories. Looking forward to "Aftermath."

Really surprised that Siren got renewed for a second season. It's not that I think the series is bad I just feel it has a story that could be wrapped up in one season. I get the feeling a second season is going to find the writers desperately searching for an interesting plot line.
