NBC announced today that New Amsterdam has been picked up for a second season. The good news comes in the midst of the medical drama's debut run, which has been enjoying continued success after a strong start.
The new series premiered in the fall and jumped out of the gate as one of the top-rated new shows among the 2018-2019 freshman class. After just three airings, the network topped up its initial order to a full 22 episodes, making it the first fall newbie to earn a full season.
New Amsterdam stars Ryan Eggold in his first lead role in a TV series since playing Tom Keen on The Blacklist and its failed spin-off, The Blacklist: Redemption. Eggold stars as Max Goodwin, a brilliant doctor who is New Amsterdam Hospital's newest medical director. Wanting to disrupt the status quo, he sets out to bypass bureaucracy and focus on providing patients with exceptional care.
Look for Season 2 of New Amsterdam this fall as part of the 2019-2020 television season.
