The political drama is axed for the second time.
July 24, 2019
Word is out that Designated Survivor has been cancelled once again - this time by Netflix. The move comes the month following the political drama's third season release, which ends up as the only one ordered by the streaming service after being revived last fall.
The Kiefer Sutherland-led series premiered in 2016 on ABC and was one of the network's best-performing new entries of that season, attracting a healthy audience and even picking up a Critics' Choice award. The initial interest didn't last long, though, as its numbers dipped in Season 2 after the main plot wrapped up. The decline in viewership resulted in its eventual cancellation.
Netflix stepped in and ordered a 10-episode third season of the show, which was its shortest outing by more than half. Still, fans got to see the story progress to follow President Kirkman's campaign for re-election. But the writing was on the wall that Season 3 would be the end after some key cast members started moving on to other projects.
Designated Survivor was Sutherland's first return as a lead in a TV series since his career-reviving role as Jack Bauer in Fox's 24 franchise. In the show he plays a Cabinet member who is unexpectedly thrust into the role of President of the United States after a bombing at the Capitol kills a number of key government figures. After being sworn in as President, he starts to learn that the catastrophic attack was only the beginning of a much larger plan.

First season was very good, but second season, just became too hard to watch, it's like he runs the country with just three other people, and nothing followed reality or how things are really done. Very surprised it got a third season, not surprised it got cnx'd again. Never watched the third season and don't plan on doing so.

The first season was the best, this last season was rubbish and at times totally unwatchable.
It would have been better off being a one season mini series

Netflix turned the show into a soapbox for its political agenda. We just want to watch a show. We don't want to be preached to. "The interviews were real and unedited . . . " Yes, we know, we're all racist, transphobic, brown people-phobic and we should be ashamed of ourselves.

Get Woke,Go Broke.Hollywood learning one failure at a time that people watch to enjoy and escape from the bullshit, not get ideology pushed down their throats. They just want to be entertained with a good story that doesn't have someone pushing politics in front of entertainment. This is just another example of that very fact. The #metoo movement has overdone it and the result will be great to see. Some correction was needed yes, but idiots are driving the ship now,and its sinking because of greed and the insatiable desire for power and revenge...i.e. the MCU and Star Wars debacles.Just watch.More failures coming

I am disappointed. I really liked the show and Keifer Sutherland. I actually subscribed to Netflix because of it

If Designated Survivor has been axed, who is next in line for president?

Wow! Very disappointed that they cancelled this again. Season 3 was by far the best season. Netflix made a mistake on this one.

It started as a fantastic political-action-conspiracy-thriller.
It then became a political-conspiracy-thriller.
It ended up as yet another political backroom soap opera. Best to end it now before it descends any further into tedium.
