The BBC announced today that The Capture has been picked up for a second season. The British series premiered in 2019 on BBC One in the UK, becoming BBC iPlayer's biggest new show of the year and garnering widespread critical praise.

The thriller has yet to premiere in the US, but is set to hit NBCUniversal's Peacock streaming service when it launches on July 15. Season 2 will most likely follow in 2021.

Season 1 of The Capture follows a soldier who was recently released from prison after his conviction for a murder in Afghanistan was overturned due to flawed video evidence. But just as he returns home to celebrate his freedom, shocking CCTV footage from a night out implicates him in another serious crime, and now he must fight for his freedom once again.

While the main plot was wrapped up by season's end, Season 2 will follow key characters from the first season and continue with the overarching story.
