No Season 2 for the midseason drama.
June 25, 2020
Word is out that NBC has cancelled Council of Dads after one season. Star J. August Richards took to Twitter this afternoon with the sad news, which comes ahead of next week's scheduled season finale - now its series ender.
The show premiered in March for a 10-episode midseason run that ultimately underperformed for the network. Critical reception was decidedly mixed and ratings were among the lowest on NBC compared to its other dramas.
Council of Dads follows a father of four whose life is turned upside down after an unexpected health scare. Concerned for his family's well-being in the case of his absence, he recruits some of his closest friends to step in as back-up dads to help guide his kids through every stage of their lives.

Bad decision NBC !! A nice show for the summer !! Could have done without the boy/girl transgender, but the other characters were believable and likable !!

Wow - one of the only watchable summer TV shows - and NBC cancels it? I don't get it! Everyone I know that watches it really enjoyed it. Go ahead NBC, air more reality and game shows - and most of your viewers will be watching Netflix and other streaming services.

I watched the first episode and was deeply moved. But I felt it was simply 'too much' for me to emotionally take on, and during these challenging times of loss. The concept was truly lovely, but I felt the timing and subject matter was a current miss for me. I wonder if other people had the same reaction and that is why it underperformed. Again, the first episode was quite well done.

How could you cancel this show? I hate you! I don’t want to watch any of your network shows because you cancel them. I get invested in your show and then it goes away. Why should watch any of your programs? I hate your network!
