Showtime announced today that The Chi has been picked up for a fifth season. The good news comes the day following the conclusion of Season 4, which had another impressive showing of solid viewership despite mixed feedback from audiences and critics.
Set in Chicago, the city of which it is named after, The Chi focuses on working-class residents within a south side community who become linked by coincidence but are bonded by the need for connection and redemption. It is a tough neighborhood, where there is real and constant danger, meaning even the simplest decisions can have life or death consequences.
Look for Season 5 of The Chi in mid-to-late 2022.

I’m happy to see it renewed but season 4 definitely was the weakest yet, especially with some of the best characters written out of the show, along with the plot lines getting increasingly absurd. The grounded portrayal of the south side community is what made the show appealing. Still, I find the show very watchable so I’ll tune in next season. But I hope the series can go back to what made the early seasons so great.

I think the show portrays blacks in a negative manner. Does not do their cause any good. Show is becoming a drag and tough to get through.

It's nothing more than a soap opera without the organ music overlay.

Season 4 was HORRIBLE. This show does not have a single honest, trustworthy, quality female character on it. Completely unrealistic behavior from the guys as well. Every single one of them has been cuckholded by the end of the season. The MAYOR OF CHICAGO is now on the run? His new identity might as well be Spider-Man or now or something. Pointless and unrelatable even if you suspend belief in reality for an hour. This show needs to be revamped entirely. No more Jemma, Jake, Maisha, tiff, Douda, Imani etc.
