Adult Swim has cancelled Tuca & Bertie after two seasons on the network - its third overall. Creator Lisa Hanawalt took to Twitter with the sad news, which comes two months after the end of Season 3.

"To all our fans - we love you and can't thank you enough for your support over the years," Hanawalt wrote in the tweet. As part of her message she also noted that she still has "a beautiful and weird ending to T&B in mind, hopefully someday we'll get the chance to finish this story."

This marks the second cancellation of the animated comedy. The series originated on Netflix in 2019 and appeared set for a lengthy run after being met with overwhelming acclaim, making many critics' best-of-the-year lists. But viewership did not meet the streamer's expectations and it was axed after just one season. Less than a year later, Adult Swim stepped in and revived the show for what ended up being two 10-episode seasons.

Tuca & Bertie follows a self-confident and free-spirited toucan named Tuca and her best friend and roommate, a self-doubting song thrush named Bertie. When Bertie gets closer with her live-in boyfriend, Tuca must move into her own place - which is still in the same building. Despite their new living arrangement, they still help guide each other through the ups and downs of life as a bird.
