It was announced today that the upcoming third season of Reservation Dogs will be its last. Co-creator Sterlin Harjo took to Instagram with the news, writing a lengthy message expressing gratitude to those who worked on and supported the show.

Stating that three seasons felt like the right decision creatively, Harjo wrote that, "I always knew what the ending of this story would be, I just didn't know when it would arrive. As we continued to break stories and write scripts this season, it became clear to the producers, Taika and me that the season three finale is the perfect SERIES finale." See the full message in the post below.

The half-hour series follows a group of Native teenagers who, a year ago, experienced the death of one of their members. Struggling to deal with the loss, the remaining four blame the poverty and spirit-crushing environment of their reservation. To honor their lost member, the group decides to head to California - but to make it there, they'll need to save enough money while outmaneuvering those that stand in their way.

Since its premiere in 2021, Reservation Dogs has been met with widespread critical acclaim, even winning accolades from the American Film Institute Awards, the Independent Spirit Awards, the Gotham Awards, and the Peabody Awards.

The third and final season of Reservation Dogs premieres on August 2.
