Apple TV+ announced today that Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has been picked up for a second season. Based on Legendary Entertainment's MonsterVerse, the sci-fi drama concluded its 10-episode freshman run earlier this year. Per the announcement, multiple spin-off series are also being planned.

"Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has left an indelible imprint on the hearts, minds and imaginations of audiences around the world, led by the brilliance of Chris, Matt, Kurt, Wyatt and the incredibly gifted and talented cast and creative team," said Morgan Wandell, head of international development for Apple TV+. "We couldn't be more excited for viewers to not only have the chance to experience even more thrills in season two, but to embark on epic, new journeys in the franchise as we expand Legendary's MonsterVerse."

Set in the aftermath of the battle between Godzilla and the Titans that destroyed San Francisco, the show focuses on two siblings who follow in their father's footsteps to uncover their family's connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. They discover clues that lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army Officer Lee Shaw, taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows.

The MonsterVerse is a universe of interconnected stories that bring together pop culture's most titanic forces of nature. In each movie or series, humanity battles for survival as they fight for their world in the face of a catastrophic new reality - the monsters of our myths and legends are real. Films in the MonsterVerse began in 2014 with 'Godzilla,' continuing with 2017's 'Kong: Skull Island,' 2019's 'Godzilla: King of the Monsters' and 2021's 'Godzilla vs. Kong.' The first TV series in the MonsterVerse was Netflix's 'Skull Island,' which premiered last summer. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters marks its first live-action series.
