Amazon's Prime Video announced today that Mr. & Mrs. Smith has been renewed for Season 2. The news comes three months after the action dramedy released its 8-episode freshman run, which garnered a positive reception from both critics and viewers. Shortly after its February debut, it became a top series on the streaming service in more than 130 countries.
"We are excited to announce that a second season of our groundbreaking spy series, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, is in the works for our global Prime Video customers," said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios. "The success of the first season, with its incredibly modern, sexy reinvention of the original film, is a testament to the brilliant creators Donald Glover and Francesa Sloane. We are proud to bring you another season filled with unforgettable journeys and new adventures."
Based on the 2005 film of the same name, the series follows two lonely strangers who each land a job working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a life of espionage, wealth, world travels, and a beautiful brownstone in Manhattan. For their part, they must each assume a new identity in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. The new couple now need to navigate high-risk missions while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story gets even more complicated when they realize they have feelings for each other.
