The competition is tweaking its format in a Battle of Champions.

NBC announced today that The Voice will be coming back for a 29th season in spring 2026 with a revamped format that will, for the first time, see just three coaches in the big red chairs, rather than the typical four. The news comes well ahead of Season 28, which airs this fall.
In what is being dubbed the Battle of Champions, Season 29 will see Adam Levine, John Legend, and Kelly Clarkson reunite for the first time since Season 16 and compete to see which coach is truly the best.
Aside from having just three coaches, the show is adding additional tweaks as well. During the blind auditions, coaches will have a 'Triple Turn Competition' to see who can get the most 3-chair turn artists. The winner earns a 'Super Steal' during the battles, which they can use once to trump another coach's steal.
In the knockouts, there will be an in-season all-star competition where the coaches each bring back two artists from their previous teams to compete in sing-offs that will be judged by CeeLo Green. The coach with the most sing-off wins automatically secures at least two artists in the finale.
