The drama won't return for a second season.
August 25, 2025
It is being reported by Deadline that The Waterfront has been cancelled after one season. The news comes two months after the drama released its 8-episode freshman run on the streaming service.
It is unclear why Netflix decided not to proceed with a second season, as the show appeared to fare well following its June debut. It spent five weeks in the Netflix Global Top 10 English language series list, with three in a row in the top spot.
The Waterfront follows the Buckley family, who for decades has ruled Havenport, North Carolina's local fishing industry and restaurant scene. But their fishing empire has started to crumble as patriarch Harlan Buckley recovers from two heart attacks, leaving his wife Belle and son Cane to venture into the deep end in order to keep the family businesses afloat. As their attempts spiral out of control, Harlan steps back in to take command. Facing her own demons, their daughter Bree - an addict in recovery who's lost custody of her son - finds herself entangled in a complicated relationship that could threaten the family's future.

Unbelievably poor decision. This show had a great cast and had the depth to continue for a few seasons. Really enjoyed the show and was looking forward to Maria Bello running the family business!

But With Love, Meghan gets a Season 2. What is Meghan going to do this time, move potato chips from one bag to the other.

Yet they wonder why people are getting rid of streaming at record rates.

Come on!!! WTF!! I was really enjoying this show. If the show is doing well, why cancel it? What is the reasoning?

Don’t get why any network make a show like this and cancel it. I actually really liked this show. Felt a bit like Bloodline but it had the makings of being a great show. Such a shame. Think Netflix are just gonna keep making crap like Virgin River because it’s easier on the audience. Think Paramount+ could be a good home for this show but it’s probably not gonna see the light of day now. WTF Netflix.
