FX announced today that an order has been placed for an untitled Snowfall spinoff series from acclaimed producer Malcolm Spellman and the producers of the original series. The drama will star Gail Bean and Isaiah John, two veterans of Snowfall, joined by Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith and Simmie Sims III.
The new show will be available on Hulu sometime in 2026, set in 1990s Los Angeles soon after the end of Snowfall. It will follow a recovering addict who strives to take West Coast rap mainstream, while gang wars erupt and record labels move to exploit hip hop culture for their own gain.
"This new series takes us back to one of the most formative eras in music with the birth of the West Coast rap revolution," said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment. "We worked with Malcolm Spellman on the documentary series Hip Hop Uncovered and he has encyclopedic knowledge of this material. This is a breakout starring role for Gail Bean and, as always, Isaiah John is terrific along with the ensemble cast. Snowfall was one of the most successful FX dramas ever and we're excited that Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme and other veterans of the Snowfall creative team are on board."

Ever notice how Hollywood is obsessed with black characters that are thugs or drug addicts? Yes drugs and gang rap did help destroy communities and increase violence . But it is everywhere .. and coke was killing lots of people I knew way back in the 70s. If this shows this then fine. But if it glamorizes coke selling ... It is part of the problem

Snowfall was a perfect 10. Why use characters from a brilliant show to possibly tarnish it's reputation. If they want to make a show about gangs and rap in the 90's, use new characters. NYPD Blue was a great show, yet Boston Blue sucks after 2 episodes. People will watch quality FX shows without the tie-in to previous shows.

This sounds like a bust. Snowfall was innovative and not really like anything else on tv.
This plot sounds like 100 other "the beginning of rap" shows

Just what we need more (c)rap "music." What a colossal waste of electricity, both to produce and to watch.

...no ideas... just make the same show every network is making and try to cash in on your original success... which was NOT a series about rap music... I mean is there NOTHING else they can create for a black-based series??? Rap or drugs.. that's it....
