The 'Blue Bloods' spinoff will return for Season 2.
December 3, 2025
CBS announced today that Boston Blue has been renewed for a second season. The early pickup comes just six episodes into the police drama's debut run. Fellow Friday freshman series 'Sheriff Country' was also renewed today.
"Two new shows on Friday night have become instant hits with audiences quickly embracing Boston Blue and Sheriff Country across broadcast and streaming," said Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment. "These early renewals reflect the power of character-driven storytelling, compelling narratives and the exceptional talent on both sides of the camera."
A spinoff of 'Blue Bloods,' the series follows NYPD officer Danny Reagan after he moves to Massachusetts to take a position with Boston PD. In his new role, he is paired with detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.

To everyone who has commended on Boston Blue, I cannot agree with ANY of you more! I have watched each show, HOPiNG and PRAYING it will get better as it “matures”. It’s just plain ol’ bor-ring! The story lines are more than pathetic, the wrong is less than juvenile and the so-called “chemistry” between the various characters? Where is it???
The writers really need to be fired. Get in people who know how to write or else kiss this boring show goodbye.

I wanted this show to succeed, but it's been a disaster. I've stopped watching it. Why did they have to create a "Reagan" family in Boston for Danny to glom onto? Why not do something more original? The whole thing is forced, from the very first episode when Danny decides he needs to move to Boston.

I don't see this getting a third season.
It's missing something. It should've been a true spinoff with other characters.

I decided to stop recording the series. I wrote I was shocked they got a second season but Donny would not have done this with-out that confirmation before hand. They film in Canada due to the dollar and film only noticeable outside locations in Boston.
I fast forward through most of the scenes, sad to say. Bring back Blue Bloods.

CBS relies on people that do not have cable or older viewers who have spent 60+ years watching network television. That is why the networks can put on generic programming. Cancel an expensive show, Blue Bloods or SWAT, and replace them with one character from the original. Bam! New show that people with limited options will watch. Network saves lots of money. Blue Bloods sits on the top of the list with NYPD Blue and Hill Street Blues. Boston Blue does not.

Lots of families have dinner together.

This show sucks big time, especially trying to imitate the dinner scenes…….can someone explain why Detective Reagan and son are sitting at the dinner table? their not even part of the family, in fact they hardly know the hosts……completely foolish. Instead of trying to imitate Blue Bloods why didn’t they just keep a great show on the air

It's a "good enough" continuation of the original. Blue Bloods was definitely better, but this show is okay. I'll keep watching this for now.
I hope we get some more cameos in season 2.
At first when I heard they recast the son, I was like wtf? But when I realized the son is a cop also now, it made sense. The dude who played the son in Blue Bloods was a fat ass who never tried to lose any weight and just coasted on the fact that he had a steady role, and never tried to get in shape. He probably spent his entire salary on candy and cookie treats. Now they needed someone in shape to play the role, so the casting change was good.
I don't see the show as "woke" either. The two black women are flawed like everyone else. They aren't portrayed as "strong" or whatever. Just people. Not every show that has black people in it is "woke". The cast is fine.
