The 'Blue Bloods' spinoff will return for Season 2.
December 3, 2025
CBS announced today that Boston Blue has been renewed for a second season. The early pickup comes just six episodes into the police drama's debut run. Fellow Friday freshman series 'Sheriff Country' was also renewed today.
"Two new shows on Friday night have become instant hits with audiences quickly embracing Boston Blue and Sheriff Country across broadcast and streaming," said Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment. "These early renewals reflect the power of character-driven storytelling, compelling narratives and the exceptional talent on both sides of the camera."
A spinoff of 'Blue Bloods,' the series follows NYPD officer Danny Reagan after he moves to Massachusetts to take a position with Boston PD. In his new role, he is paired with detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.

I actually like this show a lot. The overarching storyline is fun to watch and unlike most crime drama show does not just last one episode and resets the next. As far as i am concerned this show has hit the storyline and quality spot on and I commend the creators for keeping it interesting while at same time have a storyline keeps throwing curve balls and keeps you guessing what going to happen from one episode to the next. It's like just when you thought you got the show all figured out another plot comes in to expand the storyline further and keep you guessing where it might lead until the next curveball and storyline twist comes in. Also i fail to understand people saying theirs no action when clearly there is especially since the last episode leaves off on a cliffhanger. Not to mention the numerous action scenes where cops are being shot at and spoiler some die. It may not be a thriller so it's not for everyone but i do appreciate that the show keeps a low profile and tends to lean more on high moral standards for storytelling than the dark side of criminals. Which thieir are criminals in this show who have a dark side to them but what i like about the show overall is it also shows the "positive side of police work" and how some criminals "can be rehabilitated". I also like that it doesn't go really dark and show criminals raping other victims even if it just acting in a show like some other crime drama shows do that are just too dark for me. If you like a upbeat action filled show that's more on the positive side of character development than the negative than this show is for you. If you want a dark thriller like action show that explores the true corrupt dark nature of criminals than this show is not for you. Which is why i am glad they are renewing it. I hope the writers continue their fun narrative and this show has many more season to come.

To everyone who has commended on Boston Blue, I cannot agree with ANY of you more! I have watched each show, HOPiNG and PRAYING it will get better as it “matures”. It’s just plain ol’ bor-ring! The story lines are more than pathetic, the wrong is less than juvenile and the so-called “chemistry” between the various characters? Where is it???
The writers really need to be fired. Get in people who know how to write or else kiss this boring show goodbye.

I wanted this show to succeed, but it's been a disaster. I've stopped watching it. Why did they have to create a "Reagan" family in Boston for Danny to glom onto? Why not do something more original? The whole thing is forced, from the very first episode when Danny decides he needs to move to Boston.

I don't see this getting a third season.
It's missing something. It should've been a true spinoff with other characters.

I decided to stop recording the series. I wrote I was shocked they got a second season but Donny would not have done this with-out that confirmation before hand. They film in Canada due to the dollar and film only noticeable outside locations in Boston.
I fast forward through most of the scenes, sad to say. Bring back Blue Bloods.

CBS relies on people that do not have cable or older viewers who have spent 60+ years watching network television. That is why the networks can put on generic programming. Cancel an expensive show, Blue Bloods or SWAT, and replace them with one character from the original. Bam! New show that people with limited options will watch. Network saves lots of money. Blue Bloods sits on the top of the list with NYPD Blue and Hill Street Blues. Boston Blue does not.

This show sucks big time, especially trying to imitate the dinner scenes…….can someone explain why Detective Reagan and son are sitting at the dinner table? their not even part of the family, in fact they hardly know the hosts……completely foolish. Instead of trying to imitate Blue Bloods why didn’t they just keep a great show on the air
