Fox announced today that Best Medicine has been renewed for a second season. The drama is off to a solid start for the network, currently ranking among broadcast TV's Top 2 highest-rated new dramas among adults 18-49.
"Best Medicine quickly became a breakout for us this season, blending sharp humor with real heart," said Michael Thorn, President of FOX Television Network. "Liz Tuccillo brings a distinctive creative voice to the series, and Josh Charles leads an exceptional cast that audiences have embraced. We, along with Propogate, are excited to build on that momentum in Season Two."
The series follows Dr. Martin Best, a brilliant surgeon who abruptly leaves his illustrious career in Boston to become the general practitioner in a quaint East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a child. But Martin's blunt bedside manner rubs the locals the wrong way, and he quickly alienates the town. And while Martin can address any medical ailment or mystery, he's really just desperate to be left alone. Instead, he keeps getting dragged into the middle of their personal chaos, feuds, and fantasies. What the locals don't know is that Martin's terse demeanor masks a debilitating new phobia and deep-seated psychological issues that prevent him from experiencing true intimacy with anyone.

"Almost every one followed the same storyline: some town activity or festival is disrupted or cancelled by the doctor because of some health scare."
It's a good show with good characters, but it needs better writing. No small town has a different festival every week of the year. It's absurdly ridiculous. The sheriff is also a little too quirky to be taken seriously. He's a duffus.
Almost every one followed the same storyline: some town activity or festival is disrupted or cancelled by the doctor because of some health scare.
The villagers are then angered and raise up their pitchforks and torches against Doc Best. He eventually finds a solution and everything is hunky-dory.
During all this, the doc is constantly rolling his eyes and muttering his frustration.
It got to the point where I thought- here we go again.
But no more.
