Disney Branded Television announced today that Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will return for a shortened third and final season this summer. Billed as a 4-part event, the final run will see executive producer Selena Gomez make her directorial debut with the premiere episode, as well as reprise her role as Alex Russo in multiple episodes.
A continuation of the original 'Wizards of Waverly Place,' the series follows a grown up Justin Russo, who has chosen to lead a normal, mortal life with his family, Giada, Roman and Milo. When Justin's sister Alex brings Billie to his home seeking help, Justin dusts off his magical skills to mentor the wizard-in-training while also juggling his everyday responsibilities - and safeguarding the future of the Wizard World.
In the 4-part event, Billie is still reeling from losing Alex at the end of Season 2, and discovers that the only way to rescue her mother is to reunite with her long-lost father. As her family bands together to find Alex, Billie realizes that their combined power is the only way the Russos can defeat the evil plaguing them.
