The veteran medical drama will return this fall.
March 30, 2026
ABC announced today that Grey's Anatomy has been picked up for a 23rd season. Coming with three episodes left in the current season, the renewal extends the show's record as prime time's longest-running medical drama.
On the air since 2005, the Shonda Rhimes series continues to be a solid performer in ABC's lineup. While its linear ratings aren't what they were in its prime, the show does draw a strong streaming audience.
Grey's Anatomy follows the doctors working at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital. The staff of attending physicians, residents, and surgical interns are faced with all types of medical cases, from trivial to life-threatening. While furthering their careers, they learn and grow from the patients they treat and the relationships they form with each other.
Look for Season 23 of Grey's Anatomy this fall as part of ABC's 2026-2027 lineup.

@goeze - You want to "Seriously" know "how is this being renewed??"
The people who own ABC have voted to create a board of directors. The board of directors have hired a CEO. The intern hired staff to run the network. they decided "based on a combination of high viewership, specifically within the 18-49 demographic, and financial viability (production cost vs. advertising revenue)." what ABCs network schedule should be.
The show will have producers that will manage the cost of the show. They will try to keep to a budget so that enough money is spent to keep people watching, but enough money is saved to keep the network renewing it. Shows that are on the air have production cost that are lower due to the fact that some things, like sets, storylines, titles, are already created. As a show goes on actors will ask for more money, but after a certain point the diminishing return on viewership of a 15 year old show means that the amount they can ask for and still be worth contracting lowers. If it is cheaper to get a new cast, but still will keep the show on the air producers will do that. A show like Greys Anatomy has producers that have experience keeping the budget down.
With a lower cost, the ratio of viewership to advertiser dollars can be lower and still turn a profit. Any show that has made a high enough profit usually returns vs a new show that might lose money,
Now lets not act like we don't understand the basics of network scheduling economics.

This is a random lightpost in Iowa. Its there, and if you use it, it means something to you. However... when was the last time you thought about a random lightpost in Iowa? When was the last time you thought about what's on Thursdays at 9pm on ABC?
With so many media outlets today a show being on or not means little. Sure they could end this, but what would they put in its place? Why don't they keep this and put that on Hulu? As long as it makes back what it takes to make it why end it?

This is crazy how this show keeps getting seasons. Why I do not understand, but I do not watch so I must be missing something. I know only one person that watches and they tell me it out of habit at this point. Enjoy.
