Sony Pictures Television announced today that S.W.A.T. Exiles will air on Starz in the US beginning September 25. The spinoff series was announced over a year ago, shortly after 'S.W.A.T.' ended its 8-year run on CBS.

The new series follows Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson, who is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits. Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city - and saving the program that made him who he is.

Anyway, I have no issues with a reboot. My problem is making Hondo the center, when it was always more interesting when focusing on the ensemble. This feels a lot like a Shemar Moore vanity project, more than anything else.
I am also in the minority: a cop show trying to deal with social issues is a huge mistake. OG Law and Order did, but also managed to be entertaining. SWAT failed at this miserably when Hondo tried to see "down with the kids." Just corny and unconvincing.

Since the last series was canceled, the cast members from that series have complained about being excluded from the new one.
Now it’s on STARZ instead of CBS… I wonder if they already know it’s not going to do well…
