The comedic sci-fi adventure will return next season.
November 2, 2017
Fox announced today that The Orville will be returning for a second season. Created by Family Guy's Seth MacFarlane, the hour-long space dramedy premiered in early September and is off to a strong start for the network through seven episodes.
The show got a nice push for its premiere, with its first two episodes airing in a special Sunday slot following heavily-viewed NFL games. Its subsequent move to its regular Thursday night time slot saw an inevitable drop in viewership, but it has remained a solid performer, with its last two episodes experiencing week-over-week ratings growth after hitting a season-low three weeks ago.
Taking inspiration from Star Trek, The Orville takes place 400 years in the future, when Earth is just a small part of an advanced and mostly-peaceful Planetary Union. The U.S.S. Orville is a mid-level exploratory vessel with a human and alien crew led by rookie officer Ed Mercer, who is played by MacFarlane. Determined to prove his worth despite his First Officer being his ex-wife, Ed leads his crew as they face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the familiar workplace problems.
The show has six episodes remaining in its 13-episode first season, with a new episode airing tonight. As for Season 2, no details are known on episode count but look for a return in 2019.

Seth is a voice for an animated cartoon - not an actor.
I'd wager he is bankrolling this new show to force it to the 2nd season.

I like this at first, but it stopped world building and started using to many tropes to early. Yes Really you are right that episode in Alienplanet city, Colorado was so boring. by the time the shuttle ride was done you knew the rest of the story and could turn it off.
@really. You don't know this but, Star Trek substituted Federation for states and planet for america, and klingon for russia. It was the United Federation (states) of Planets (america) and it fought the Klingon (russians). Most episodes were like Wink this is a bout this social issue wink. Were the episodes you watched about them stuck on a planet and one of the red shirts kept screwing up the attempts for rescue? Did the kirk, the Captian, keep calling Spock, the first mate, buddy? I think you were watching Gilligan's Island. Stark Trek in the 60's was so heavy handed social issues that you could not have watched and not know that.

.. I've seen every episode... well at least 30 minutes of every episode. The last one with the DR in Colorado (yes I know it was supposed to be an alien planet.. but come on, it was Colorado.) was so bad I had to turn it off after 30 minutes. The rest of the episodes I've had to unfortunately sit through.. it's a dreadfully preachy rip off. Seemingly based on teh misguided perception that Star Trek (the original) tackled social issues. While it did in a FEW episodes.. the BULK of the 3 year series had little or nothing to do with social issues.. .. then.. be unable to buy the right to Gene Rodenbury's creation.. so you substitute "Union" for "federation", tap your wrist for a communicator rather than tapping the chest insignia, have a shiny driod rather than a human-like one...Have some hermaphroditic alien that is emotionless rather than a Klingon. Just so obviously a cheap knock-off. If you don't see it.. you aren't paying attention.

To everybody: love it or hate it, come here and praise it or trash it ---- but unless you've watched most of it, please include how much of it you watched to base your opinion on!

Having worked on a ship for over 30 years, I have to say that in many ways this show is actually quite true-to-life. When there is a problem, or something serious going on, the crew get serious and deal with it. The rest of the time everyone is joking and goofing about to make the time go by easier. This show is not just a spoof of Star Trek, it's a realistic, comedic look at life.

I love this show!!! One of my favorites of the season. Hopefully it will stay around for a good long time. Too bad it's only 13 episodes.
Seth - Keep up the great work! One of your best!
To all the haters - why come here and leave a negative comment. If you don't like it, don't watch it. It's that simple.

Good show - lots of fun. May as well be the New Star Trek. The Latest 'Star Trek' was carelessly tagged on after to spill over programs take-a-knee football, and 60 minutes, neither of which I care for. Then the episode got cut off after it was forced to record later IN IT's OWN time slot, leaving no room for the rest of the show. If I wanted to see the rest, I had to put in my credit card number to CBS All access. Nice try - CBS! I already pay more than enough for regular cable and should be able to see all the shows there without having to log-on and put my credit card in yet again another place in the twitter-verse! They really screwed up the Klingon's anyway. I can wait until they come out on Netflix some year, If I still care to watch. Networks have been playing fast and loose with time slots and frequently spill over 2-3 minutes, often cutting off the end of many shows, forcing you to take up another time slot just to record the rest. For frequent TV watchers this causes many problems when faced with limited slots per hour. Any show that would spill out of an assigned time slot should send THOSE watchers to the web to see the rest, and leave all the shows at the even hour or half hour so people do not have to do handsprings just to record their shows. Just my opinion - Peace, All!

Well got to tell all you haters, it is better than the new Star Trek: Discovery series and I have watched all of them as they aired. The Orville is light and funny with a touch of "In the mirror Darkly" (one of the best eps of ST ever
). So I for one am glad to hear it will be back for more seasons (hoping for more than just S2),
