Andy Klavin is a 19-year-old young man who travels from his hometown in Nebraska to Burbank California in 1972. Once there, he surprisingly stumbles his way into a job at "The Tonight Show" starring his hero, Johnny Carson.

A fish out of water, Andy is all of a sudden caught up in the glamorous Hollywood scene full of sex, drugs, and rock & roll. During his journey, Andy meets a colorful cast of characters including the show's writers, its producer, and perhaps most importantly, Joy, who is unlike any woman he has ever met.
