Variety is reporting that TNT will likely be renewing Southland for a fourth season. While there has been no announcement from the network, a source told the publication, "We hit the benchmark and are very proud of this season. My hope is that TNT will tell us sooner rather than later that we're coming back."

The gritty cop drama is wrapping up its third season this week, and while never a ratings juggernaut, viewership has been solid enough to warrant a pickup. The show is up 5% with overall viewers this season over the last, averaging 2.9 million a week.

Southland originally started out on broadcast network NBC in 2009, and was actually renewed for a second season in July of that same year. Oddly though, NBC announced a mere three months later that it was cancelling the show before a single Season 2 episode aired. Less than a month after that, TNT stepped in to pick up the show.

The network is expected to make a formal announcement regarding Season 4 of Southland in the near future.
