One episode of the medical drama will go unaired.
August 24, 2011
ABC has announced that the first-season finale of Combat Hospital has been moved up one week from September 13 to September 6. What this means for its fans is that one episode of the freshman medical drama will go unaired on the network.
The move also doesn't bode well for the future of the show - on US shores at least. Combat Hospital is a Canadian-produced series that also airs on Global Television in Canada. If ABC opts not to move forward with a second season of the show, it is quite possible that Global will pick it up.
A similar situation happened with drama The Listener, which NBC originally started airing for a Summer run in 2009, only to pull it from the schedule after a handful of episodes. The series continued on Canadian airwaves and was recently renewed for a third season.
As it stands, the future of Combat Hospital is unknown at this time, but ABC's decision to leave an episode of its first season on the shelf puts chances of a second one in serious doubt.

I would echo the comments by both Sarge1976 and Judith; it would seem that the people behind the scenes at the networks underestimate the people on the couches across America. My wife and I lead stressful lives and view quality TV drama for one reason: joint escapism. Combat Hospital offers substance and depth over the rampant mind-candy that the main networks seem to think we want. Hopefully they take a winning page from AMC's programming playbook and keep this solid rookie in the game...

Combat Hospital is a terrific program with great plots and a wonderful cast. Why is it that TV programs that do not spoon feed the millions of people (acrainiata) who seem to be unable to watch drama, carry the day as to keep or kill a series. The main theme is that war sucks, without having to actually say so, and in many cases does not end with a happy ending. ABC should re-think this decision.

Combat Hospital is an excellent show -- so naturally ABC would choose to cancel it. The bone-headed network execs ALWAYS cancel any shows of depth, quality & intelligence. They will undoubtedly replace it with some insipid reality show that only a brain-dead moron would bother to watch. No wonder so many people are starting to watch only cable network shows -- very soon they will be the only intellectually satisfying shows offered on TV.

The best new summer show in a while. It has depth, amazing imagery and writing and the hour goes by too quickly which makes you realize how good it is. I hope that American networks start recognizing quality and save a very worthy show.

This is my favorite show of the summer, why would ABC do an idiotic thing like canceling it!!? I'm getting tired of investing my time in new shows and really enjoying them only to have them canceled! F-You ABC!!

You have got to be kidding. This is a GREAT show, ABC has got to keep it. Also not showing one episode will leave us hanging on some things. Why are all to good shows taken off and the really bad one left on? I guess ABC has no idea what a good show is.
