The show is halted after three horse deaths during filming.
March 14, 2012
HBO has cancelled drama Luck following the deaths of three horses that took place during the show's filming. The most recent incident took place Tuesday, when the third horse was put down as a result of an injury suffered on the way back to the stall after filming. Two other horses died during the show's first season.
Luck was in the midst of filming its second season when the decision was made to end the series. The show's first season will still air its remaining two episodes, concluding on March 25, 2012.

What is it with horses dying on these shows? Are they not hiring people that know how to take care of these beautiful animals or is just total neglect? PETA used to make sure things like this never happened. Where the heck are they on their responsibilities?

What show were you all watching?!?! I have watched every single episode this season!
I saw the preview 1st ep. January and couldn't wait till the season actually started. Not only is it a riviting show in itself, watching the similarities to Deadwood; the beggining credits, cinimatography, well crafted characters and brilliant acting; gives me joy and makes me long for the next episode! While I am an animal lover and feel sad for the horses, to hear this series is over before it got a chance to "run" deeply saddens me. R.I.P.

I didn't see a single episode but heard from others that it was bland and difficult to maintain interest in. With that being the case, and learning how horses were dying during its filming makes me feel good riddance.

I am big time horse racing fan, and I just could not get into this show. It was boring and I could not get past two episodes. Also, the fact that three horses lost their lives during filming made me sick. I get that injuries and fatalities are part of the sport, but for a horse to lose their life filming a TV show is just not right. I am glad they cancelled it.

As a big horse racing fan, i was excited about this show, then lost interest halfway thru the first episode...the plot and the story lines were confusing and boring, even to an well edjucated horse person...

It is sad about the horses. However, how about the fact that the show was convoluted, depressing, and initially lost my interest half way through the first episode. I am glad I stopped watching after 4.

Completely agree, the premise of a show like this is just awful and everyone involved with it shouldnt even be allowed to work again. Its just despicable

im very sad to hear about the horses.....have many memories visiting santa anita park......i believe this is the best decision television could have made...show business vs. the life of an innocent animal....there is no competition here...
my best to all that have lost their four legged beauty/
