The show is halted after three horse deaths during filming.
March 14, 2012
HBO has cancelled drama Luck following the deaths of three horses that took place during the show's filming. The most recent incident took place Tuesday, when the third horse was put down as a result of an injury suffered on the way back to the stall after filming. Two other horses died during the show's first season.
Luck was in the midst of filming its second season when the decision was made to end the series. The show's first season will still air its remaining two episodes, concluding on March 25, 2012.

This show was all plot and character building in the first 4-5 episodes and despite the Haters/Quitters really began to spread it's wings and become a great show in the back half of the season. HBO should really consider CGI for the race sequences and bring it back for season 2. I'm an avid horse race fan, and unfortunately, death is part of the game. The safety of horses would be spared if they used computer graphics for the races on the show. Just a suggestion, simmer down PETA supporters, this is a valid alternative for the "endangerment of animals".

To me, it seemed, that the show was way over my head. I don't know about racetracks or betting or horses for that matter and I don't know their lingo which they seemed to use a lot of! I was very disappointed and bored with this show. All I know is 4 guys won the big jackpot ( of the week? Year? Day?) and Nick Nolte mumbles enough to put on the closed captioning and Duston is like 73 years old!

This really needs to be reconsidered. This is one of our favorite series. The character developement in this series is the best. Agreed,it took a couple of episodes to get everything to tie together, but was definitly intriging enough to come back to. The actors have great
chemistry with each other. We couldn't wait for the next episode. Each group of characters is unique within itself, but we are dying to know how they all were going to interact with each other. It was just getting started, not given a chance. The horses' deaths sound like a personnel problem, not the series filming problem. Get someone to take better care of the animals!!!

The cancellation had nothing to do with horses dying, other than it was a good excuse. They were on the hook for big salaries and expenses and the ratings we're too low. By using the PETA complaints as an excuse to cancel they were "off the hook" and avoided legal issues with the many stars looking for pay checks. I loved the show, but I knew the network wanted an excuse to dump it. If this show were the highest rates show on HBO do you really think they would have caved to the PITA complaints, be honest. It was all about money and ratings, and an easy out.

Actually, Invasor is alive and is standing at stud right now. You must mean another horse.

As a thoroughbred horse racing handicapper, I can honestly say death in the horse racing industry is inevitable. Remember the championship horse "Invasor?" If you don't, he won the Breeder's Cup Classic when he raced against Lava Man and Bernardini. Well, long story short, he broke his leg during a training exercise and was shortly euthanized because of that injury.
The horses used during the filming of Luck would have probably been killed and used as dog food anyways... The producers of luck are giving in to the pussified threats from PETA. BULL ****!

Horse's die...sooner or later, it's a fact. Hoffman , Nolte , and Farina together...well that may never happen again. Who really paid attention to the horses anyway. No one is ging to notice if "lucky charms" is being played by "he's got game" or whatever stupid horse name they issue them. They should breed their own just for the show, and in turn, run their own dog food processing plant to handle the "incidents". Simple. BRING THIS SHOW BACK MONSTERS.

I like the show. I like Dustin Hoffman, Nick Nolte,Dennis Farina the entire cast is good. But we can't have horses dying! Do not understand. What is going on with horses dying? Seems to be no one is doing there job or hiring the right people
