The long-running drama will return for the 2012-2013 season.
May 3, 2012
The CW has announced that Supernatural has been renewed for an eighth season. On the air since 2005, the long-running series will be back in 2012-2013 and possibly even longer. There was no word in the network's press release about Season 8 being the show's last.
Also renewed by The CW today were The Vampire Diaries and 90210. The trio of pick-ups leaves the fates of a number of other shows up in the air for now, including The Secret Circle, Nikita, Ringer, Hart of Dixie, and Gossip Girl. While not all the preceding shows will be canceled, it is certain that some will be dropped. News on other renewals is expected later this month at the network's upfront presentation that will take place on May 17, 2012.

I heard today that Supernatural was going to be taken off the air and I think I almost had a "seizure." Out of all the programs on TV, this is my favorite. I work a lot of hours with at risk youth and when I need time to chill it is Supernatural all the way. I watch the reruns whenever I have the time and I watch it on Wednesday nights. I am missing BOBBY big time though. I love his one liners. Where did he go anyways? I miss Cass too. It is a great show and a great stress reducer for me. And OMG, Sam and Dean, you would swear the way they relate to each other that they are truly bros man. The kids I work with really like the show too. It is something I have in common with them. Love the show for its style, its sense of humor, its compassion, its human aspect and just providing me a way to unwind. So, I would like to thank everyone connected to the show for doing such a great job in providing your followers an escape from this crazy world we live in. Keep up the good work and your dedicated fans will continue to follow your fight the "close the gates of hell."

I can't help but think that this show was meant to end with the episode entitled "Swan Song" where Chuck the Prophet tells the story of the Winchesters. It would have been the perfect ending. Instead It's like they decided at the last minute to keep the show going, then came up with the soul-less Sam and the Leviathan storylines and everything else that came after. None of which had the same high quality writing and storylines that we had become accustomed to when we sat down to watch each new episode. I am glad though that they are doing at least one more season. I'd love to see a lot more of Cass our favorite angel and maybe even a visit in some way by God himself (in some form). Wouldn't it be something if Cass turned out to be God "incognito" after all. Getting Bobby back would also help to get this show back on track. All my opinion of course. Looking forward to season 8...

I am a huge fan of Supernatural. I have watched from day one. This season however seems so lack luster. Oh the Boys look as hot as always but I looked up tonight ( after the show ) to see if it is on the cancelled list! AND... if this is jumping the shark then JUMP! Dragging us through a slow, boring show seems cruel. Now Sam wants a "NORMAL " life?! Who is he PIPER HALLIWELL? Check on Julian McMahon, Nip/Tuck is over! HA Seriously though come on CW do not let the Vamp and their Diary beat you down!!

i agree with D, show has gone downhill since the EPIC season 5, especially the leviathon story line. They were trying to go bigger and badder than the God/angels/demons thing. yea, can't be done. they need to go a different way. i'm a die hard fan but i'm getting to the point where i just want to know how it ends. i hope it comes full circle, with a reunion of them with all the ones they love and that they are somehow rewarded for saving the world um... 5 times?

Season 8 will only be good if they bring back the Impala and the classic rock. Both were conspicuously missing this season.

Extremely Happy about Supernatural....next to that show Leverage is my favorite show on television..I have watched every show of Supernatural more than once, can't stand alot of other things on T.V., so I record favorites and on a rainy day re-watch them. Looks like a great ending for the season finale. Keeping Bobby/Jim Beaver on as a ghost next season would be great..along with our favorite angel/Misha

I love Supernatural. This is the only show besides Walking Dead that my family watches together. (Our twenty year old still lives at home) We have watched it since day one. We have a ritual where we turn out all the lights and watch together. I am not ready for the ritual or the show to end. I love the Winchesters, so cute, and I think the show has a good amount of humor as well. I love the way Jensen and Jared play off of each other. It isn't as scary as it once was is probably my onlny complaint. Well that and I do wish that they would bring Misha back more often and not just in guest spots. I am very interested to know how they are going to keep Bobby on the show. At least I am hoping they are going to keep Jim on the show. I love his character and was really angry when he was "killed" off.

I am super excited that they have renewed Supernatural for another season....Jared and Jensen are perfect for the job...They seem to keep you laughing...I liked Ringer only because of Sarah Michelle...Could have been better...They must keep Nikita as well....
