The freshman J.J. Abrams thriller will not return.
May 9, 2012
Fox has cancelled new drama Alcatraz, which premiered earlier this year in January as a mid-season replacement. The series got off to a solid start in the ratings, but viewership dropped off significantly over the course of its 13 episodes. The show's last four episodes rated a series low 1.6 in the key adults 18-49 demographic, which was clearly not enough for Fox to bring back the series.
Also cancelled by Fox today was freshman drama The Finder.

Fox, you have to realize not all of your shows are hits like 24 or Fringe. Why don't you allow a cable channel to pick up Alcatraz?

I can not believe Fox is pulling great shows of the air. I have to agree with some of the comments above. I have a very busy life and i rely on my DVR to watch all my favorite shows. I am getting tired of you all pulling great shows when you just get into it. Why watch any tv at all when you guys keep pullling it of the air!!!!!!

I'm not surprised this one got the axe. It didn't answer enough questions about where the prisoners came from and why. It got to be just another crime procedural after a while. I got bored with it and saved the last 5 or 6 episodes on my DVR because I figured it would get cancelled and I didn't want to waste my time watching. Fox does have an itchy trigger finger when it comes to cancelling stuff. It's annoying.

FOX you SUCK! This show was great. I don't see how it's possible to continue using an antiquated ratings system to understand what people are watching. The only way Nielson ratings are measured is if the show is watched live or within the first three hours of being recorded. Don't they understand that the world is changing and the way people watch tv is no longer locked into an immediate viewing. If only they looked at a real measure of viewership they might keep some good shows on the air.

where are the execs that gave x-files time to find its footing??? Time for the reality show teens that seem to be running the network to leave and bring the adults back.

This was a pretty terrible show. Like a commenter below, I watch a lot of SyFy shows and this was just bad. Seemed like it was a thrown together idea. Glad to see it go.

I am SO sick of decent shows being cancelled. Sure, perhaps they lose ratings, but what about the millions who were STILL WATCHING?!

@Stew: Wow, I am from Germany and in my opinion a lot of great shows come from the UK, some US-Shows are remade or ripoffs (House of lies (US) - Hustle (UK)). Spooks, Waking the Dead, Luther, Wire in the Blood are outstanding (or where outstanding as they lasted). Life on mars was remade in the US, and Awake has a imho good, but similar set of rules.
So, no, I cannot understand the envy.
Even in Germany there are a few great original shows (although most not to my taste). Some shows are really great and in my top 10 shows there would be more UK-Shows. But that is just my 2 ct.
Sad to see Alcatraz go. And without a decent ending. Well, it was fun while it lasted!

WWWHHAAATTT, how can they just leave us all hanging like that!!! This cancelling of shows is starting to drive me nuts. I mean is there any point in watching anything at all? because anything that is any different or any good just gets dropped! The mid season breaks and 3 weeks of repeats every now and again drives me nuts too.
