The Shonda Rhimes drama ends after five years on the air.
October 19, 2012
ABC has cancelled Private Practice after deciding not to order the back nine episodes of the current sixth season, which will now be 13 episodes in length. The medical drama, originally spun off of the still-going-strong Grey's Anatomy, has aired over 100 episodes since premiering in 2007.

I used to could not wait until Thursday night to watch Grey and Private Practice. Now I cant wait until 10pm on Tuesday to watch Private Practice. Well I guess if they cancel this show my tv wont even be turned on Tuesday night. Im sick of good TV getting cancelled. It is no wonder our kids are so messed up they keep things on tv like Jersey Shore and other nasty shows but get rid of Private Practice. Blah...

This is one of the few shows I watch anymore on ABC. Looks like CBS has the inside on dramas. This show dealt with real life situations and often gave reasoning I hadn't thought about before. So what happens? You cancel it. Upper management decision SUCK!

I agree with all the above comments. There is hardly anything good to watch on TV anymore. I hate Reality TV! And I definately hate "Scandal"! And I wish someone would, "Kill off the Bachelor!!!!" I can definately say that if they cancel Grey's Anatomy, I will be done with ABC altogether. These are the last two shows I watch. REALITY TV HAS RUINED TV! And I will eventually cancel cable.

I am tired to ABC canceling the good shows. This is why I don't watch ABC anymore. Keep Private Practice on the air!!

As soon as I heard that Private Practice was moving to Tuesday, I realized that some executives wanted to kill it, and showcase a new show in the desirable spot following the hit, Gray's Anatomy. Made no sense to move it from its sister show. PP was a sacrificial lamb, hidden from fans, causing lower ratings and a predictable cancellation. I hope ABC got lousy ratings from the replacement show at 10, Thursday, because I refused to ever watch it as my humble protest against moving Private Practice to a less desirable spot. Boo to you, ABC. PP is a fine show, and I was a fan through all 5 1/2 years. Good job Shonda and actors. Bad job, ABC.

I am so sad to hear this! I love Private Practice! They really need to re think this decision. Why mess with a good thing?! At least finish the season.

Once again, such a stunner for ABC tv execs who decide to cancel a very good show. This was once of my favorites. It seems all of the good shows get cancelled and the stupid ones get to stay. Makes one wonder who is really making the decisions. I've about had it with ABC. Maybe everyone should stop watching this network and view other networks who seem a bit more on top of which shows should really be cancelled. This was such a great show!

Private Practice is one of my favorite show. the reason the ratings are down i guarantee is because you changed the day to tuesday because i am so use to watching both greys anatomy and private practice back to back that i forget about it coming on tuesdays now what you should have done to be smart was to put the new show on tuesdays instead of screwing up the weekly schedule of private practice i have watched scandal before and it is ok but to be honest with you when greys anatomy goes off i turn the channel to mtv or oxygen it just made since to have the doctor shows on back to back because for one sometimes they coincided with one another and for two everybody was used to it and i know i am not the only one who just totally forgets that private practice comes on tuesdays now. i really think it would be nice to reconsider the cancellation.

This is the most touching and heart wrenching show ever. I am very saddened that it will be cancelled. The actors all do an amazing job and at least deserve a full ending season.
