The military drama will not continue past its initial order.
November 16, 2012
ABC has cancelled freshman series Last Resort. The military drama will still air all 13 episodes of its original order but will not continue past that.
Since debuting in late September, Last Resort was hailed by many critics as one of the strongest new dramas of the 2012-2013 season, but ratings for the show failed to match up to its critical praise. This past Thursday's episode was its lowest-rated to-date, likely sealing its fate.

Amazing all the drivel on TV and a good show like this gets cancelled. Goes to show the mentality of the American viewing public and the people who run the networks!!!

Could have been a good show. Had it kept them on the sub, instead of parking them at the island of Lost 2.0, it would have been a much more thrilling and suspenseful adventure every week. They even already gave the sub a sort of sci-fi stealth mode to make their hiding from the world's various navies more believable, making the decision to park them on that island even more unforgivable.
Why didn't they keep them on the sub, dodging enemy ships? Maybe dock at the island or some other port of call every few episodes for supplies, right a few wrongs while there, and escape just in time? Why not go all-in on the military coolness of naval warfare instead of whatever was going on with their silly banana republic?
Young men want to watch a submarine drama, not a live-action version of the video game Tropico.
In other words, instead of making Star Trek, they decided to make Deep Space 9, which killed the show at its conception despite stellar production values and a stellar turn by ol' Andre. Sad, but this cancellation was not an injustice.

Additionally Hill Street Blues in its debut season was rewarded with eight Emmy awards, a debut season record surpassed only by The West Wing, and the show received a total of 98 Emmy Award nominations during its run. Maybe Last Resort may not do as well, but it deserves a chance. as did Terra Nova, another forward thinking show

What else is there to say, once again reality junk stays on and a show with a believable premise and a good cast falls by the wayside because of ratings. Think back to Hill Street Blues and their canceling, only to come back and win Emmy's and continue for SEVEN more seasons on a different network. Or JAG canceled by CBS after the first season and then to be picked up by NBC and run 9 more seasons giving us two spin offs, NCIS 10 seasons and NCIS LA 4 seasons. I can only hope that some network official that doesn' have oatmeal for brains sees the light.

OMG! I am so sick of the networks cancelling great shows and leaving the total crap on the air. We need more reality shows like we need another hole in our ass. Again the network didn't give this program a chance. Yet, they gave no indication of cancellation. Now I will get no closure to the storyline as usual. Same thing with 666 Park Avenue. I can't stand it when they end a show without a true FINALE. I didn't watch ABC before and it appears I will cease to watch it now.

This show has a very good cast, and a very good story line. It is sad to see that the networks pull good shows instead of giving it a shot in another time slot. I hate to see it go, they should sell the show to TBS, TNT or USA.

I have noticed that many good shows get canceled not because they are bad but two things can spell disaster, the time slot it is in and the name of the show. To just look at the name Last Resort people could think many different ideas as to what the show is, maybe a travel show maybe a last attemp to save a job or marrige / please excuse my spelling/ the name does not bring excitement to mind and as a resolt gets missed, JUST SAYING.

My husband and i look forward to watching this show every week. We can't watch it during prime time so we watch on demand. As usual they cancel the good shows and leave us with crap to watch.
