HBO announced today that The Leftovers has been renewed for a third and final season. The drama recently concluded a sophomore run that saw it lose half its viewers from Season 1 despite garnering higher critical praise.
“It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome back Damon Lindelof, Tom Perrotta and the extraordinary talent behind The Leftovers for its third and final season,” said HBO programming president Michael Lombardo in a statement. “This show has proven to be one of the most distinctive HBO series and we are extremely proud of its unrivaled originality, which has resulted in such a passionate following by our HBO viewers. We admire and fully support Damon’s artistic vision and respect his decision to bring the show to its conclusion next season.”
Loo for Season 3 of The Leftovers to premiere in 2016.

Giani -- Newsroom HAD to end because it caught up with current times. They couldn't keep writing it without taking political stances on current topics -- bad for a tv network. Getting On was based on a UK series that was 3 seasons long. There are no more episodes to "convert" for a US audience. And apparently they don't want to find new writers to try and create new episodes. No clue why the Leftovers is ending after 3. I would GUESS that the "welcome back" comment eludes to some sort of contract negotiation.

Love this show, its gonna be sad to see it end. Keeps my brain working. Even when it loses me ut finds a way to bring me back. Hopefully season 3 will be long and thrilling

Whats with HBO with making their shows only 3 seasons lon?!
I mean "The Newsroom", "Getting On", and now "The Leftovers". They should at least last 4-5 seasons

Well I enjoyed season one and most of it made sense, Im struggling through season 2 because I overall I like it even if I am struggling to understand what most of it is still about! The acting is great though which is why I'm sticking with it, I will stick with it through the final season and hope it all makes sense in the end!

A shame. I watched the first episode of season 2 and said I am done and removed from my DVR. Then about a week ago I saw they were running an all day marathon of the season and decided to record it and give another chance. I was glued to the TV. I thought the season was awesome, even cried at the end. It couldn't have been a more perfect ending.

*Final* season? Wow. Way to go, HBO, way to kill one of your most innovative shows at the apex of its creativity. I'm glad it'll be back for a third season, but hopefully they'll reconsider their "final" decision in the months to come.

AWESOME. This is a great show. Wish it would continue for more than just 3 seasons but at least it will get a proper ending. Can't wait for more.
