It is being reported that hit HBO series Girls has mapped out the rest of its run, and will be ending after its sixth season. Since its premiere in 2012, the Lena Dunham comedy has amassed legions of fans, garnered critical acclaim, and won multiple awards.
Girls will be kicking off its fifth season next month and has yet to be officially renewed for Season 6. It's likely that HBO will confirm a final season for the show when it formally announces its next season.
Update: HBO has officially renewed Girls for a sixth and final season.

I'm with you Cal. I cannot stand Lena Dunham! I gave this show a shot in the beginning--watched 3 episodes. It was too torturous. The only thing I got from it was discovering Allison Williams.

It's smart to go out before it gets too drawn out! Just like Sex & The City did!!! It takes a strong artist to know when it's time to finish, even if it's still hugely successful! Looking forward to season 6

Not surprising. Lena Dunham has been implying this for awhile. Hopefully that means that things are properly planned out and it'll have a strong finish.
