The revived drama will not return for a third season.

It is being reported that American Rust has been cancelled by Prime Video after the release of its second season. The move marks the second cancellation of the drama, which debuted on Showtime in 2021. After first being cancelled in 2022, Amazon Freevee picked up the show for a second season. But it didn't return until March of this year, and on Prime Video rather than Freevee.
Based on Philipp Meyer's hit debut novel, American Rust stars Jeff Daniels as a complicated and compromised police chief in a Pennsylvania Rust Belt town full of good people who can make bad choices. When the son of the woman he loves is accused of murder, he must choose how far he is willing to go to protect him.

I loved this show. First on Showtime, then on Amazon. It probably would have survived, had it not been jerked from network cable, or streaming services. I'm sure it would have survived had Amazon gave it another season and promoted it properly.

Great show I really really love it. I didn’t know that it was on Amazon. I’m gonna watch the second season and I hope Amazon Changes and continues to stream this show

Maura Tierney just signed on to Law & Order. Not sure if the cancellation came first or if her leaving came first. Really enjoyed this show and sorry to see it go.
