The long-running drama's run is extended.
March 11, 2016
The CW announced today that The Vampire Diaries has been renewed for an eighth season. The veteran drama has seen its once-strong ratings taper off in recent years, though it maintains a solid core audience. Its move to Fridays, where it airs along with spin-off The Originals, has helped improve the network's performance for the night.
Along with The Vampire Diaries, The CW also renewed all 10 of its other series today. Picked up for 2016-2017 include iZombie, Reign, The Originals, The 100, Jane the Virgin, Arrow, The Flash, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supernatural.
