The spy drama will end after Season 6.
May 25, 2016
FX has announced that an endgame plan has been finalized for The Americans. The veteran drama was renewed today for two final seasons that will conclude the series. The long lead time until the final episode should come as welcome news to fans, as it allows the showrunners ample time to plan out exactly how the story will end.
The network has ordered 13 episodes for Season 5 of The Americans, which will air in 2017. Then in 2018, 10 last episodes will wrap up the story, ending a successful run of the critically-acclaimed 80's spy drama, which has been a flagship series for FX since its premiere in 2013.

Season 5 has been the best season ever. To quote an astronaut it is awesome covered in awesome sauce. Our spies have made some tough calls and started to question what they were doing. Their teenage American children are complicating their plans to return to the Soviet Union. Drama on a commercial laden channel that makes it all worth it.

Of course there's 2 years worth of content left. We still have to get through the rest of the 80's until the Berlin Wall comes down.
And maybe a bittersweet epilogue when as travel agents they can openly take their children to Moscow and St Petersburg and their hometowns...

The show is getting SLOW and wearing thin on plot. I can not imagine there is two years worth of content left in this horse to make 26 worthwhile episodes. At least they killed off Martha, worst character in the series and they spent WAY too much time on her.

This is how it should be done. Set a date for a show to end in advance so the showrunners can close it out to everyone´s satisfaction. Thank you FX.

This show has been a solid pull all 4 seasons so far. I hope they keep it up. It's a rare drama that doesn't get predictable and boring after a few seasons. Since the (psych-out) conclusion of Breaking Bad, this may be the best drama on TV.
