Fans of Netflix's hottest new drama have been waiting patiently for this day to come, and now it's finally here. Stranger Things has been officially renewed for a second season, the streaming service announced this morning.

Since premiering last month, the freshman mystery drama has wasted no time in amassing a huge following and becoming one of this year's most talked-about new shows. Its buzzworthy status comes from both fans and critics, who became enthralled with the show's characters, pacing, and nostalgic references to 1980's movies and television.

Netflix has ordered nine new episodes for Season 2 of Stranger Things, up one from its first-season count. The show is expected to return sometime in 2017 and will look to continue exploring the bigger mythology behind the events that occurred in Season 1. Creators The Duffer Brothers will be returning to develop its sophomore season, stating they hope to retain the tone of the show but give a different feel to the structure of the storytelling.
