No back order for the new CBS drama.
November 21, 2016
It is being reported that CBS has decided against ordering any additional episodes of freshman series Pure Genius. The decision comes as no real surprise, as the medical drama has made little impact in the ratings since its late October premiere, and currently ranks as the network's lowest-rated new series of the 2016-2017 season.
Pure Genius was created by Jason Katims, known for past audience favorites Friday Night Lights and Parenthood. This latest effort, which follows a tech billionaire who creates a cutting-edge hospital to treat the rarest of medical mysteries, unfortunately did not seem to catch on with viewers the same way as his more-successful shows have.
CBS currently plans to air all 13 originally-ordered episodes of Pure Genius, leaving nine still left in its run. However with it being the network's only new series not to receive any more episodes, there appears to be little hope of it getting a second season.

it's a decent show, but nothing groundbreaking. it's basically just House but with a computer solving the cases instead of a doctor.
and btw @Tap, Bull has already gotten the full season order so it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Everyone bitchin n moaning about CBS not giving the show a chance seems to forget that network television is not in the business of entertaining you - theyre in the business of selling advertising. If advertisers arent going to pay for the show (regardless of how "good" it is) then the show is cancelled. Floating trash like those reality shows are low-budget high advertising therefore easily get picked up. Show like this are expensive and involved - its the equivilent of any of us buying a new sports car every six months in the hopes of selling it to a collector next year. Viewers opinions pretty much are meaningless. Personally, as for the show, Im tired of misunderstood genius billionares coming to save the day with magical solutions to mundane problems. I tried, but I was bored with it in the first 10 minute. My mother seemed to enjoy it though...

@Genev13 - the acting you call goofy, I find more natural (and enjoyable) than a lot of serious acting which isn't always so real either. We expect more seriousness for a hospital role but I think the idea is that the show mix fun, funny, and deathly seriousness. The patients are the real ones having trouble pulling it off - if the doctors were drop dead serious, then the bad patient acting would be more unbearable.

Yep, knew it. Glad I didn't invest any time in the show. I have a feeling Bull is gonna get the ax next. Haven't watched a single episode of either show. Glad I didn't.

I like the show, but the main character, James Bell, is over acted and too goofy. If he would tone it down it would really help. Didn't they test out the show, get feedbacks, if so they would of adjusted things. Better to keep a good show and adjust then just cancelling it. CBS (actually all stations) should invest time in their show instead of having one night stands with everyone that invest their acting, writing editing (carrers) for shows that CBS won't keep. I feel for the acting team (well, the entire team) who work in tv, if the station doesn't care they toss you out like yesterday's news and then you put your hopes in another project that yet again gets tossed out before it even has time to set roots. Hays off the anyone that works in tv.

I like it ok so far. It's enough different from other series and I like the optimism, technology, and the main characters. The billionaire pioneer could be suited as a young entepreneur in any technology company, but that's consistent with the premise. The acting there is light and atypical for a hospital role yet again that what's called for. The acting by the patients, however, and their relatives, has been mostly bad, but those actors have a tough act. The circumstances around the problem medical conditions and the lucky and miraculous cures is far-fetched, to say the least. So even though I like it for now, it's easy to see it going south. -- Not that any of this matters now. It's too far gone for a genius technological cure.

This is a good show. They keep renewing utter crap, but when something decent and intelligent comes along, they don't give it a fair chance. So frustrating

A weirdo in flip flops running a hospital. Yeah, swell idea for a show! Put some shoes on. Its a hospital, not the damn beach you jerk.
