The door is still open for the franchise to eventually continue.
June 7, 2017
After delaying a decision on the future of 24: Legacy during last month's upfronts, Fox this evening has officially cancelled the action drama after just one season. The move comes following the franchise's first incarnation without Kiefer Sutherland - a 12-episode run in the spring that ultimately fell flat in the ratings.
Fox executives had high hopes for 24: Legacy, giving it this year's coveted post-Super Bowl time slot that started its season off with over 17 million viewers. And while the next couple of episodes fared decently, audiences stopped coming back for the remainder of its run.
It is being reported, though, that Fox and 24's production team are open to revisiting the franchise in the future with a more anthological format, with each season featuring a different setting and a new cast of characters.

@Plop did a quick googlin. Seems it can replace the cable's box which they like charging for. and also seems to provide other value adds. If they didnt, I can see your point YMMV.

@Suzanne Tivo? That's still a thing. With all cable companies having their own DVR service, I am surprised anyone would have/want/need Tivo.

I can't say this one surprised me. '24' without Jack Bauer is like 'Walker Texas Ranger' without Chuck Norris. Both programs were extremely over-the-top action/crime dramas that only worked because of the leading character and that character's chemistry with the rest of the cast.

@tirebiter: (or anyone else who knows the answer) Since 24 is made to be binged, and my memory is pretty bad when I watch massive blocks at one time, I'm trying to remember when that Russian massacre you referred to occurred. I only recently watched "Live Another Day" so that is relatively fresh in my mind. In that mini-series I couldn't figure out why the Russians would do anything to get Bauer in their custody. Is it safe to assume, then, that the massacre/heroin was in the last full season, Day 8?
@CanadianEagle: Interesting observation
I still have "Legacy" sitting in my queue unwatched. After reading all of these posts, I'm not sure what to do. I checked the ratings and Wow! I guess it will depend how bored I am and if my TiVo runs out of space.

Wow! usually cancellations bring fans and renewals bring haters. Here, it's different, as the cancellation came all with negative reviews backing it up.
This definitely indicates that the reboot was a total trainwreck.
Good that I did not bother to watch this reboot.

Sorry but I found this reboot as stupid and over the top as the original. I know many liked the original... but this reboot was pretty darn close to that.... in all it's cheesiness and unrealistic scenarios.

@Peter. You're right. This reboot needed her furrowed brow while Bauer was yelling at her that the atomic bomb will blow up in 30 seconds if she doesn't hack into the Government tracking system.
"Oh no!" she says, looking at the borrowed laptop connected to a coffee shop wifi, "They've added a new firewall with 10 gigabit encryption keys that cycle every 5 seconds".
"Do it now!" yells Jack.
Tappy tappy tappy... "OK, I'm in."
