Netflix officially announced today that Mindhunter has been renewed for a second season. The new crime drama premiered on the streaming service just last month with a 10-episode run that has garnered positive reviews from critics and fans alike, making the show its latest must-binge entry.

From executive producers that include David Fincher and Charlize Theron, Mindhunter is based on the true crime book "Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit". The series stars Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany as FBI criminal profilers who embark on an ominous investigative odyssey using specialized profiling techniques to pursue notorious serial killers by trying to understand their twisted minds.

Today's pickup had been somewhat expected, as Fincher has already discussed where they'll be taking the story next. Season 2 will reportedly focus on the Atlanta child murders that made headlines between 1979 and 1981. No time frame has been set yet for a return, but late 2018 or 2019 appears a likely target.
