The summer talent show will be back for another season.
January 8, 2018
At its TCA presentation today, ABC announced that its 2017 revival of The Gong Show will be back for a second season. The amateur talent competition returned to the air this past summer after nearly a decade since its last incarnation.
The original Gong Show premiered way back in 1976 on NBC, airing for two years before entering syndication, where it was broadcast on and off through 1989. The popular format has popped up in various short-lived incarnations since then, but none caught on the way the original did. ABC's revival looks to have changed that trend, as viewership was solid over the course of its freshman run.
Hosted by a British comedian named Tommy Maitland, who is actually Mike Myers is disguise, the series features unique and creative performers who take to the primetime stage with unusual talents. A revolving panel of celebrity judges critique them, offering praise if they enjoy the act or a gong to show disapproval.
No premiere date has been set for Season 2 of The Gong Show revival, but another summer run appears likely.

Seriously> The Shaving Cream song is 5 minutes of the same thing every show... I mean it's the SAME THING. Sure once in a while but every stinking episode? It's pointless unless you've never seen the show before.

This is fun. I agree that the judges could be a little more fun.. too serious at times. It would be nice to see more guest judges as well rather than just ones who are involved with producing the show. I like the shaving cream song. I think the idea is to get a song going that everyone knows and sings along with. It's all about silliness and to really enjoy it a person needs to just let all manner of decorum go and just invite in some silliness into his or her life once a week.

Does need better, or at least, more jovial, judges. And please please please please kill the damn shaving cream song every stinking episode.

Get better guest, not the same people over and over. Some are not funny, but boring. Only doing it for not a quick buck. Just sad.

I remember a stand up comedian performing as a vampire and I think it was Grandpa from The Munsters who was one of the guest panellists. He ends up gonging the comedian and the host says "why did you gong the count?" and Grandpa screams out "Because he sucks!". Still laugh about that to this day. Great childhood memory aside, the Plopster isn't sure this premise will work today. Will probably try and make it political and just gong the president over and over. We shall see.
